Advert Analysis - blessthefall - (Hollow Bodies)

This advert isn’t just an advert to advertise their newest album, but it is also a poster to advertise their UK headline tour. I know this because it shows the tour dates that they are doing at the bottom of the page. This could be seen at a synergy convention because they are advertising two things at once, the album and the tour. This advert has the main things that people would look for, title, name, release date and where they can purchase it.
The overall look of the advert is very simple and plain. With the white background, the red face stands out, because of the plain background colour. The font on this advert is black and spaced out as it matches the new logo of this band, as they came back with a new logo and a new album. This advert just confirms the newer version of the band, as without this new logo, they’d have had the same since 2007. So it is used to make people aware of the new and improved blessthefall, so that they can recognise them in the future. This advert was printed on the inside page, so on he back of the front page. It could have ben printed here, so that people won’t miss it, unlike it being on the back page. People tend not to look at the back page, as they must think that it can’t be as important as things further in the front of this magazine, so the further to the front the adverts are the more new and important they must be.
The photography on this page is a trademark of this band. They’ve used it on all of their newer releases. They’ve used it on their album cover, their advert and their backdrop for this new tour. This face is a mask with a person underneath; no one knows whom this person is other than the people that were involved in the making of this character. To the rest of the audience this actor is unknown. I think that this is what gives this advert mystery, as it’s unbeknown to the audience. Although we don’t see the rest of this persons costume, as we can imagine what it’s going to look like from the make-up. I imagine it to be very black and dull.

As this poster is a album advert and a tour poster at the same time, it could be an attempt at synergy. The band are not that well known in the UK, and to sell albums and tour tickets at the same time, is a way of making a larger impact on the audience. to have two methods of making money from the audience, it is going to be more profitable for this band.

As for the rest of the advert, the rest is fairly simple, it’s a simple poster than everyone can look at a understand instantly, this is because of it’s efficiency. It’s printed on glossy paper, as it’s the back page as already focused on. I think that this does give the advert a more sleeker look, as the photo printed is now shiny and has a nice feel, unlike adverts that are printed on normal paper and them type of adverts are really dull and uninviting because the colour is darker than others.  This advert has a red smear on in, inside that is where they can buy tickets of the album. Because the rest of the page is white, this red mark really stands out. I get the impression that this is what it’s supposed to do. It also matches with the face as this looks like smeared blood, this is a way of linking both of these connotations together. So that if you seen apart then it wouldn’t be that hard to piece them together.
Along with this smear, it says ‘Featuring ‘Déjà vu” & “You Wear A Crown But Your No King”. These songs have already been released as singles, prior to the album, do when people see this they may recognise the song and with maybe contemplate buying it as they have already heard songs from it. This is a good advertising technique when trying to persuade an audience to buy it.

Overall, I think that this does had a good appearance, even though it is heavily rock genre connected. As the Pop genre wouldn’t have someone drenched in blood on the front of their album. So it has heavily thought out in terms of who are their audience etc. This advert also has the logo of their record label Fearless at the bottom, this is their to show the audience who this album is released with, so just in case it’s sold out, you can log onto the Fearless Records website and find it there.

Lastly, I really like the look and design of this advert, it does what it’s supposed to do, which is to attract people into buying this album so therefore it’s persuading then it informs the audience about their tour. It’s not overcrowded with information and so them the audience can look at the advert and find the necessary information that they need, without looking and wasting too much time on one advert.
